Treat Complex Water as Tankage Demand Increases
Because of the high level of sulfides, COD and ammonia, the in-plant waste water treatment system was not capable of handling the complex contaminated sour water stream generated by a large Refinery. With 3.5 million gallons stored in multiple tanks and an increase in domestic crude production putting increased demand on their available tankage, the Refinery called on GEM to treat the water to on-site discharge standards.
GEM developed a treatment chain that included a combination of technologies to treat the water to discharge standards. Oil/water separation, chemical oxidation, reverse osmosis, clarification and carbon filtration were all used to remove various components of the contaminated water.
The storage tanks were returned to service and the customer was able to receive their required crude shipments.
