Remote Water Treatment For Deep Water Terminal in Bahamas
A terminal customer had been accumulating contaminated water from various sources on-site for a number of years in one of its tanks. When the total exceeded 13 million gallons and tankage space became a premium, they decided to have it treated. Because of the various sources of the sour water, it contained a multitude of contaminates including high levels of H2S, thus requiring varying treatment options. To further compound the project, the customer wanted it processed in a short time-frame to avoid hurricane season.
GEM mobilized two two-man crews and two 150 gpm oil water separators with ancillary treatment equipment to the Bahamas. The treatment train included oil water separation, chemical oxidation, filtration and carbon absorption compounded with a caustic scrubber to treat the H2S during the water treatment process.
The project was completed under the financial budget and faster than expected, which was a surprise given that the project was temporarily shut down because Hurricane Gustav made landfall. GEM treated 13.5 million gallons of sour water to on-site discharge standards, releasing the tank to the customer for product use.
