Temporary Fixed Incinerator Option During Unit Shutdown
A multi-dimensional chemical manufacturer in the Gulf coast was performing a scheduled unit shutdown. Their planned maintenance activity would bring down an acrylics unit and a fixed incinerator used to consume vapors streams from the acrylics, glacial acrylics, and butyl acrylate units. To avoid a complete plant shutdown, the customer was seeking a temporary alternative to their incinerator. The customer insisted on greater than 99% destruction efficiency and the ability to allow for remote monitoring of equipment performance from their unit control room.
GEM used a 15MMBTU MVC which provided the required thermal capacity and vapor flow rate needed to substitute for the customer’s fixed incinerator. The MVC offered the added flexibility of handling individual vapor streams separately into opposite sides of the unit, avoiding potential vapor stream compatibility issues and corrosion concerns.
The customer was able to continue to operate their acrylics, glacial acrylics, and butyl acrylate units at full production while simultaneously performing maintenance on their fixed incinerator, which equated to a substantial financial gain.
